Für die Sanierung eines am bekanntesten Masia (Bauernhof) im Dorf Alella, in den Hügeln über dem Mittelmeer, wurde ich vom Architekt geschickt, um das Gefühl des Lands zu erfassen.

Rückblinkend auf diese Rahmen ist es mir klar, dass zwei Besonderheiten mich besessen haben: eine, die ikonische senfgelbe Fassade, um die das Teams sich kümmert, bei den Renovierungsarbeiten in Würde zu erhalten; und zwei, die Typologie des kleinen Fensters in der große Wand, die wir als Architekt*innen keinen Angst davor haben sollten. Richtig proportioniert, respektieren sie das Licht, und die Macht der Sonne während des Maresme-Sommers.

For the renovation of the most well-known Masia (farmhouse) in the village of Alella, in the hills above the Mediterranean Sea, I was sent by the architect to capture the feeling of the land.

Looking back at these frames it’s clear that two features obsessed me: one, the iconic mustard facade render, which the design team is going to great lengths to retain and restore with dignity in the refurbishment work; and two, the typology of the small window in the large wall, which we architects should not be afraid of. Correctly proportioned, they still both honour the light, and they respect its power during the hotter months in Maresme.
